Community is an integral part of our lives. God made us to be in community with one another and as a church we deeply value the gift of community. Yet, if you were to do a word study of the pages of Scripture, you would not find the word community used all that often. Instead, in the New Testament, especially in Acts, and the New Testament letters, a different word is used to describe the community of the early church, fellowship.

Fellowship is a word that we don't use all that often in our everyday lives, so in this series, we will be exploring what the early church meant by fellowship and discover how the gift of fellowship makes the community that we share together as a church unique and powerful. Through the fellowship of the early church, we will discover what it means that the church is, as Dietrich Bonhoeffer once described the church to be, "Christ existing as community."

September Mission of the Month: The City Rescue Mission of Lansing is a Christian ministry that serves Michigan's capital area, meeting the physical needs of food and shelter, and bringing those with spiritual needs the Hope that is found in Jesus Christ.

Introduction to “Seeing Jesus Together” Journals: Please join us in the Morningside room after the worship service today. The journals will be available for purchase.

CONNECT Wednesday: This Wednesday we will be serving grilled cheese, tomato soup, chips, and dump cake for dinner at 5:30 pm. After dinner the CONNECT Kids and the Jr. & Sr. High youth groups will meet. There will also be a class for adults. Please see the back of the bulletin for a complete schedule of meeting times.

Welcome Potluck: The Burcham Life Group will be participating in the All church, “Seeing Jesus Together” campaign. We will begin our time with a Welcome potluck next Sunday, September 29th, at 11:30 am. If you are not presently in a life group, please come to the potluck and check us out. We are a diverse group who loves to study, pray, and have fun together. ~ Linda B

New Members' Class: If you are interested in learning more about Immanual, please join us in the Morningside Room, next Sunday, September 29, at 11:15 am.

Mobile Food Bank: We will host another Mobile Food Bank in the parking lot on Tuesday, October 1st, from 4-6 pm. If you would like to help sort and put food into cars, please sign up via our website at www.icrclansing.org.

Thanksgiving Baskets: If you would like to purchase a basket for a family in need, please sign up via our website, or in the Church Center App. The cost of each basket is $50. We will need a final commitment by next Sunday, September 29th.  Payments are due by Sunday, October 27th.  Please place your payment in the collection plate at the front of the sanctuary, or you may drop it off to the church office. Please write “Thanksgiving Baskets” on your check or envelope.

Worldwide Communion Sunday: On Sunday, October 6th, at 10:30 am, we will have a combined service with the Siloam congregation, celebrating communion together. The General Secretary of the RCA, Eddy Aleman, will be preaching the message. There will also be a potluck after the service. Please bring a dish to pass.

Corps of Dreaming: On Sunday, October 20th, we are going to be having another listening session for the Corps of Dreaming team's latest discernment of the values and mission of Immanuel. This will be after the worship service, in the Morningside room.

The 4th Quarter Greeter Schedule is Posted in the Family Life Center: This is a great way to welcome members and visitors.  Please consider signing up for one or more Sundays.

 

Giving:

The offering plate is located at the front of the sanctuary. You may also submit an offering online at www.icrclansing.org.

Local Needs:

Personal Needs Closet: Provides personal hygiene items and cleaning supplies to families in need. We are currently in need of laundry soap/pods, All Purpose Cleaner, and bleach. Please place donations in the baskets under the mailboxes outside of the sanctuary. If you are in need of help, please call Christian Services at (517) 394-5411.

In an effort to offer more personalized care to our church members, we have divided each member into smaller groups with one Elder and one Deacon as a resource and contact person. If you need prayer or have a question or concern, please call the Elder or Deacon that you are assigned to according to your last name.
